Friends or Foes?

The topic of immigration has become a very delicate and touchy subject to touch upon now a days. There is a clear line separating those who are in favor of immigrants and those who oppose them. Whether people are in favor or against this issue, immigration has been something that has been happening for a very long time. People have come to this country for various reasons but most commonly to start a new life here in the states. Without immigration, this place we call home wouldn’t be the way it is without the diversity. The United States is known as the melting pot for that reason. This characteristic is what makes our country so unique in comparison to other countries. In 1994 Canada, the U.S, and Mexico signed the Free Trade Agreement which allowed them to export materials from country to country without any tariffs. The goal for this plan was to stimulate all three of their respective economies. In relation to the U.S., Canada and Mexico import the most American made products accounting for more than anyone else in the world. This plan was beneficial for the U.S. because of the raw materials and resources that were being exchanged with those two countries.  Also because of all the jobs that were created with all the manufacturing of American made goods. The U.S however was not the only one that was able to benefit from the agreement. Workers from Canada and Mexico are often allowed to come into the U.S with visas in order to start working. Many of these people come work out here in the hopes of making better earnings for a better living. Companies who bring these people in profit from this because the labor was a lot cheaper. Today this has become a huge problem and many people believe this is backfiring on the U.S. The issue of outsourcing due to immigration has spawned because of the greediness of companies in the United States. Many believe these companies are drawing people in from other countries, for their own well-being; but, are unaware of the long term effects their actions have on the country. There is no wonder why many people are coming into the United States. Even though there has been an increase of immigration, I feel like the U.S brought it on themselves. I don’t necessarily believe it is wrong for US companies to hire people from other countries to work; however, I believe it should be done in moderation. The fact of the matter is that all these people that are already in the country account for a huge part of the economy. Whether we want them here or not, they have become integrated into our society and without them our country might suffer.
